Delmae Barton

Biography

Aunty Delmae Barton - Composer, wordsmith tactile illustrator and cultural lecturer - was born in Emerald central Queensland, Bidjara tribal descendant on her mother's side she has shared a long life journey with the world.

Widely recognised as Australia's Dreamtime Opera Diva, Aunty Delmae's career highlights among many include: 2011 YouTube Symphony Orchestra "Jam Session concert" at the Basement in Sydney. Special guest at the Una Notte Australiana (An Australian Night) at the Vatican Museums' which was held at the Vatican in Rome as a celebration of the canonisation of Mary Mackillop including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art works in the Vatican Museum (clothing sponsor dressed for success).

In 2009 was a special performance for Queen Sofia of Spain in which Delmae offered a cultural and spiritual blessing in a private concert at the conservatorium of Sydney NSW. Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in China.

The Following month of September 5th 2008 Delmae was invited to especially perform at the inauguration of Lady Quentin Bryce as Governor General of Australia. Delmae also appeared as special guest for son William Barton on the Australian Story ABC TV 2007.

In 2006 Delmae was featured guest artist at the Pompidou Centre in Paris as a result of her Artist in Residency at the International multimedia facility, Fabrica Musica in Treviso, Italy collaborating with William and other musicians to present the Songlines project at the Naples Music Festival later that year, Delmae's artwork was also used as a feature in the project with the music.

May 2005 Delmae was a guest workshop presenter in London working with youth in the YESS program in association with the London Philharmonic Education program.

In 2005 Delmae was appointed inaugural elder in residence at Griffith University in Brisbane as cultural advisor for students and members of Griffith University.

Delmae has collaborated in prestigious performances with the Queensland Ballet Company for their International Gala at the Brisbane Optus Playhouse and Gold Coast. A highlight of 2004 was the release of her album Spirit Song supported by fashion designer Liz Davenport at her Brisbane store. Liz Davenport also made a special creation for Delmae’s performance at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Late 2015 - Delmae was part of a special project of the Andies - Argentina with maestro Haime Torres and band - Delma and William Barton in collaboration.

Friend of the Indian communities of Queensland - All cultures - clans - colours - creeds of the entire world. Love peace and freedom at a fundraiser especially organised by the Queensland Police Pipes and Drums Band to help raise funds for the Japanese people who were affected by the Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011.
